I thought so, too! I felt bad about it, but there was some odd about the lower half of her face!

yes totally agree. And "odd" is being generous. They really only showed her in profile but something seems physically not developed properly. They really couldn't cast a cuter kid?

I liked that Bates and Anna are together again.

I think the Bates and Anna storyline is very realistic FOR THE TIME. Remember women were then considered a man's chattel, and if something happened to his woman, he was duty bound to avenge her honor. The comfort to the woman was in avenging her honor not in taking care of her needs.

Mrs. Hughes lied when she sore on her mother's grave that she did not know who raped Anna. Bates could have just as easily lied to Mrs. Hughes saying he would not go after the valet or the "perp."

I am glad Bates and Anna are reconciled.

I like that Tom's socialism is coming to the fore. This is a time when England was just grappling with socialism. It went full bore after WWII, thence the NHS and socialized medicine. The way Tom wants to run the farms of Downton is what will eventually happen with British agriculture.

Am I the only one rooting for Mrs. Crowley and Dr. Clarkson to get together. They are both lonely, lovely people who would mean a lot to each other. Clarkson is (for whatever reason) bedazzled by her. It is a wonderful story of "older" love.

Did Lady Grantham actually emote last night in discussing Sybil with Braxtong. That must have taken a week of acting lessons.

Mary is becoming bitchy again and I like her more that way.

Edith is getting screwed over by another man. Or not. She might just break free of the family and go to Germany and join the Nazis with Gregson.

I'm not sure how much more they can advance the story in time because Violet is such a needed element. How much longer can she live? Morbid, but I do wonder.

Did Edith have an abortion or is she pregnant? She went off to see a doctor while in London.

Thank you PP. I like your logic re the first comment, and I missed seeing that she went to a doctor--didn't read the door and I remember thinking, oh, I should read the door, oh well I guess it's her lover's office door (clearly I was too wrapped up in my tea and toast and jam, LOL)

Really, has any television couple been more annoying than Anna and Bates? And I truly wanted to VOMIT when he told her that he saw her as even more holy because of her suffering. Gross. She doesn't trust him because she assumes he has a hair-trigger temper. Then he's a pissy crybaby and says he'll have to just leave her because he can't stand a couple of weeks of the cold shoulder.

I was totally disappointed in Mrs. Hughes for not reading Bates the riot act for being so immature and useless. He should be focusing on comforting his wife, not on menacing around and threatening to kill her attacker. Ugh, I just loathe them both.

Gregson will die in Germany and we will have yet another bastard in the family.

Possibly best line: "Really father, Edith's as mysterious as a bucket."

Why didn't Mrs. Hughes just make Bates promise he would not kill anybody if she told him Anna's secret? Easy promise to make and she knows Bates would keep his word. [I know, I know, because there has to be drama].

Also, did Bates miss the part about "at least you're not pregnant" when he was in the hallway?

Yeah, she's obviously being blackmailed by Thomas. She acts like she knows he's despicable though, so maybe she'll save herself (and everyone else) and get him fired.

Why was Mary so excited to see Hewitt or whatever his name was (the guy doing the inspections on the estates)? I know he was a former suitor but she was clearly not interested back in the day (pre-Matthew, even) and he seems to have a very pedestrian job right now. I don't get it.

I also don't like the road that Mrs. Crowley and the Dowager are heading down. Looks like Julian Fellowes is once making a hamfisted attempt at drama between the characters.

I think Edith is pregnant but we're really not supposed to know yet. She's never going to hear from Gregson again until the paperwork she signs is revealed as one of his debts he now owes.

So glad that Rose only had a few measly lines in this episode. I despise her character.

And, finally, Daisy needs to head back to the farm and take Alfred with her.
