I just switched to progressive from allstate bc my rate was close to 400 cheaper for a 6 mo period.

Very different than my experience. I used to switch back and forth between Geico and Progressive every few years because they would both continually raise rates and I'd need to switch to get a new customer discount. Eventually discovered that Amica was slightly cheaper and a much better experience overall.

When we switched to Progressive, they sent us two devices that connected under the dashboard to the on-board computer. For about a month, it monitored our driving including general speed, how long it took to speed up and slow down. It gave ratings for various things and at the end of the period, it calculated a driver discount based on the conditions that were listed. Pretty easy and I got a nice significant drop in our rate based on our driving habits during the test.

Most of the insurance companies I've used gradually increase the rates to make more money. I'm not sure if the agent does it to get a higher commission or if the insurance company does it. Either way they're counting on you not paying attention to the rate creep.

What company do you use? Sometimes you just need to change companies to get the rate down.

I have a great driving record and haven't been in an accident or gotten in a ticket since being an adult but for some reason our car insurance company keeps upping the rate substantially every 6 months. I thought there were good driver rewards programs? Am I just with a crappy company or is this the general trend in the market that insurance is getting more expensive?

I'd like to shop around so if you like your car insurance company, please recommend. I'm also going to call my current company and ask them WTF? Seriously.
