I call foul here. The tax year is just starting therefore OP will NOT be paying MoCo property taxes for the bulk of the year when she moves OUT of the County. Why should MCPS allow her child to stay in MCPS without paying for it?

Either stay in MoCo till June or pay pro-rated tuition.

How would they ever figure that you moved? It's just 4 months, right? Drive your child to school, get your mail forwarded, tell your child not to let the school know...

Of course, you only need to go to this length if MCPS tell you it is an issue. I'd call anonymously to their offices first to ask the policy. I am guessing they will let your child stay. "Starting" would be a different story, but finishing out the year seems reasonable...

The lack of reading comprehension in this thread is borderline hilarious. OP, clearly no one here knows for sure. I think a worst-case scenario would be paying tuition for the final months. Call MCPS and ask hypothetically.

If they move within the county. Moving out of the county means they are no longer taxpayers. Most of the school budget is county based -the state portion for MCPS is quite low.

You can get a change of school assignment (cosa) for the rest of the school year. Ask the front office at school about it. Or google it. There is info on mcps.org

Why in the world would you do that? You are disrupting his entire high school life and throwing him in with kids he doesn't know for the last four months.. Is it not possible to stay in the original county even by renting back from the new owner or renting an apartment for a short time? Just crazy.

If you are really worried about this, you can probably pay prorated tuition for the months you child attends but lives out of county.

Hi, we moved mid year Junior year in MCPS so researched this. They don't make kids switch schools if they are in their last two years. We moved within the county but I am pretty sure it counts for anywhere. Just call up without giving your name and inquire. And then once you're sure it's OK, change the address as needed
