OP here. We're having cake along with some sandwiches, cookies, apps, etc. It's a sevice being done at the church in the hall in the mid-late afternoon, and we have no idea how many people are coming. A plain white sheet cake is something that is easy to stretch to make sure that everyone has a bite to eat, as its not mealtime and we think most people will be coming from work and have to head back afterwards. It's not like we're planning to have writing or balloons on the cake.
And I don't know what kind of funerals you all go to, but we always have coffee and cake afterwards.
