How did you use it exactly, thanks.

Seriously, 12 hours and the milk was gone. And I was pumping 9oz per session.

Leave the cabbage in the fridge.

Peel a feel leaves flat it with rolling pin and cover your entire naked breast with it. Wear the tightest bra you can tolerate over it and wait. 20-30 min maybe. Until the leaves warm up.
Repeat.
Do it for 2-3 hours (I did right before bed). Lastly dip your breast in a bowl of the coldest water you can tolerate (it huuuuurts). Wear the tight bra for bed.
My milk was gone next morning.
If you still see milk redo it every 24 hours until it's gone. .

No mastitis and no plugged ducts for me.

+1 for cabbage.

Buy from the grocery store. Wrap it in saran wrap and stuff in sports bra. Wear for 12+ hours 24/7. Sleep with it too. Change out.
WARNING: It smells really really really bad. DH thought it was the garbage that stunk, but it was the cabbage leaves in my bra. Your body heat initiates a chemical reaction in the cabbage.

You'll notice a decrease within hours. Completely dried up within in a day or two (depending if you had an oversupply or not). The milk gets stored deeper into the breast tissue, so keep wearing the cabbage leaves for an extra day or so.

Don't spend all that $$ on sage and sudafed (and why put extra stuff in to your body??) when cabbage leaves are quick, cheap, and effective.

MyLC said not to wear for more than 1 hour at a time since you can get candidiasis.

My LC said just the opposite. Wear for several hours and change out 2x/day. Agree with the above posters about how quick and effective cabbage is.

OP you sound just like me. I have been an exclusive pumper for four months and I can't eat dairy or soy either due to my DS's intolerance. I am thinking of quitting pumping soon too because it is so time consuming but its hard to quit. What are you going to give your child, Nutramigen? That is what I am considering but I need to determine if DS can tolerate it. Sorry to go off topic, we just have so much in common. I too had many tears in the beginning over latch issues.

If you go longer between pumps, you WILL produce more watery BM. Is that what you are planning to feed your poor child??

Why not just let it dry naturally like nature intended? Breastmilk is really good for your baby. My friend tried to drops pumps and ended up getting mastitis which was very painful. Also I have heard stories of issues with periods and hormones and emotions. You will end up dealing with all that. Do you know what you will take if you have issues with periods and hormones? No one can tell you since nothing exists to help with that.

With all due respect, shove it.

Also, replace cabbage leaves when they wilt. I didn't remove spine, just crushed up with my hand and put in my bra. No damage to the bra. Sage tea is also very effective. Steep a tablespoon of sage and drink three times a day. I think you steep for 10 minutes, can't remember, see kellymom.com. The thing about watery milk us not true. Any milk you give your baby is amazing. Good for you for pumping this long, it's really tough. And even some of us who wean naturally need to use these measures if we have oversupply.

Another cabbage user. You take the leaf and cut out the thickest part of the spine. I then rolled the leaf with a rolling pin to get the juices going. Put a little plastic wrap on one side and place in bra with the plastic wrap against your bra as protection for the fabric and the cabbage against your breast. Wear as long as you can stand it. It will get limp from body heat.

Also, you may be ramping down things too fast. I waited 3-4 days with each change I made to session length and it was no more than 5 minutes at a time. After reducing session length significantly, I started to go longer between sessions. I used Sudafed and cabbage as I got towards the end and never had an issue with clogs.

OP. Thanks, I am willing to do it gradually. Just can't take any more miserable right now will try sage and sudafed. Any suggestions as to what to do with the increasing amounts of watery BM I am amassing and freezing due to the big gap between pumps?

I don't really have too much to suggest, but I stopped veery slowly, over 6 weeks.

I pumped at work, so not an EP like maybe you are? But I went from 3 20 minute sessions 1 day to 3 19 minutes to maybe 1 18 and 2 19, etc. sessions. When I got to 11 minutes I dropped a pumping session and went to 2 longer sessions. Keep repeating. You can then drop to 1.

After that, stopping altogether was easy.

Other people recommend sudafed and sage for reducing supply if those help.

Do it gradually, half a pump at a time. Sudafed. It is miserable. Wish I had more helpful advice!

And I have read about the cabbage leaf (not tried this one yet) and reducing the number of times an duration of pumping but when I try that, I just get super duper clogged and have to spend like over an hour to pump it all out so i don't get shooting pains.

Have pumped from day 1 and have had lots and lots of issues with oversupply, foremilk hindmilk imbalance, blebs, blisters, tears and depression and exhaustion from trying the latch.

Mixed feelings about stopping pumping at 6 months, bitter sweet actually. Definitely have about being able to eat dairy and soy again

Any guidance on how to go about it, something you wish you did or did do that helped vis a vis pumping and overall with the crash of hormones etc.

TIA.
