I bought a vitamix and make smoothies. He loves them even if it is freezing outside. Sometimes it is just fruit (whatever we have - strawberries, mangos, pinapple, bananas) and a 1/8 cup of lemonade, or sometimes I put in yogurt instead of the lemonade.

Cereal for mine too. Different ones. And sometimes fish crackers with carrots (crackers entices him to take it out) I want to try yoghurt but his pouch doesn't keep it cold enough for the whole day.

My same aged child also comes home starving. He is very thin and eats a good mix of fruits and veggies, whole grains and proteins at breakfast/lunch/dinner, so after school I give him snacks that are filling with fat and protein but aren't necessarily as healthy Examples are nachos (made with chips and shredded cheddar, sometimes black beans) - chips and homemade guacamole - homemade pizza bagels made with mini bagels, sauce and mozarella - whole wheat toast with nutella - full fat greek vanilla yogurt with a handful of chocolate chips - a homemade muffin. All served with fruit.

OP here. If I could get him to eat these things, I'd be in heaven! He does eat apples, but it doesn't seem to last too long. Won't touch string cheese. I might try offering an after school yogurt. He'll do vanilla, at least.

Maybe we'll try some nuts, too. DH will eat them if the kids refuse!

Mine is so hungry that I often feed him his main meal right after school (hamburger or something substantial) and then he sits with us to eat his veggies and hang out.

My 8 yo DS comes home starving because they have lunch at 11 am and no snack in the afternoon. He needs a snack, but his choices at that time aren't great and they're not holding him until dinner (at 6 pm). Snack is at 4.

Anyway, I'm happy enough if he has an apple with peanut butter, wheat thins and cheese or the occasional bowl of cereal. What are other things your kids eat after school that hold them until dinner?
