An A- in middle school is fine! Only foreign language and math algebra and above go on high school transcript.

Op here. Thanks for your input, my guess is may be in all area you listed. English is not the first language for our family, and my child actually knows more (english) than my husband and I do. So I am thinking a general english tutor.

Where lies the obstacle? In writing? Reading comprehension? Perfectionism? Identifying where the difficulties lie might point you to the best type of tutor. Does your child say what's difficult? Of course, an A- is not so terrible but if you can be more specific you might get more ideas.
