That's bullshit. if you are a TRUE 1099 that means you probably don't GO to and OFFICE to do your work or that you do a good deal of your contracting work from your home. Tell me how that would be a red flag? it would actually seem strange to me to be a 1099 and ignore the home office deduction.
Yes, if you are a straight up W2 - I would never ever claim a home office deduct even if I did do a lot of work from home....that would be a red flag.
