Sorry but I wouldn’t find it cute because I know what it means…the dog is mentally limited. BTDT. Can still be a great, loving partner but I doubt it is going to win any training awards.

That is really cute. I hope he grows out of it quickly, but in the meantime, take a video of it and submit it to America’s funniest Home videos.

Try a ceramic bowl for the Golden. Make sure you can't see any reflections in it before you buy it.

Same with the puppy. Plastic or ceramic.

I use a small $1 plate from walmart. Get something different.

We have bowls made out of bamboo that aren't reflective and are made from a sustainable material.

+1. Knew someone with dogs that put their paws in their stainless steel water dish. Think they must have seen their reflection and was pawing at it. I don't think they grew out of that but they weren't the brightest dogs either.

That is very cute; let us know if he grows out of it. People, dolphins, some elephants and some apes can tell if a mirror is a reflection or not; I can't remember if dogs are on that list.

Ah, how cute. I'd just use your ceramic bowls for a couple of weeks and go back to the stainless steel when he is a little bit older. I think he will grow out of it/not care, like when puppies & cats "see" the other cat in a mirror, they grow out of it.

You could try putting an extra special treat in the stainless just so he doesn't develop some crazy phobia.

Has anyone solved this problem? We recently got a puppy and within 2 days, he started jumping back from his dish and barking loudly. Plus, he wasn't eating much, and especially avoided the water dish. I read on-line he might be reacting to his reflection in the stainless steel dish, thinking it's another dog there. I got out 2 porcelain cereal bowls of my own and he had no problem eating and drinking from those. Has anyone else had this problem with stainless steel dog dishes? Is there anyway to get him to eat from them again? Will he get hungry enough that he'll just get used to it?
