Loratidine--basically Claritin without the D(decongestant) is a weird drug. I heard that people with chronic inflammation and pain happened to feel better when taking it, so I tried it for about two months. I didn't notice anything change except it kind of killed my sex drive and made it nearly impossible to orgasm. I'm also a bit ADD, and saw no change. It didn't do much that I could see for my chronic pain and inflammation, either.

I came to this forum looking for answers for my son, he had not been diagnosed with add or adhd because he doesn't have enough symptoms for that. He does how ever act very hyper and in school he had problems concentrating and doing work in class. Recently he was allergy tested because he kept poking his nose in class and the doctor gave us loratadine the off brand of Claritin. He has done amazing in school and is getting work done, taking tests, passing them. When before would not sit still at all. What's the link between hyper activity and loratadine? He came back only being allergic to seasame seeds...

I have ADD and the drugs have been a true godsend.

PP, just to be clear, there are side effects of some sort to every medication/ drug/ stimulant that you put in your body. Always.

New poster. Which is EXACTLY why I manage my ADD using cognitive therapy. I HATE ADD drugs, I HATE stimulants. I'm even off caffeine now.

Adderall is a miracle for my ADD, but is basically cocaine and I'm not exaggerating.

I hate the dry mouth that sudafed, etc give me.

OP, you shouldn't have to be using claritin-D perpetually in any case. It's not good for your sinuses. It can cause a re-bound effect and make you more stuffy in any case, which is why I suppose you were taking it in the first place.

just to clarify- I am definitely not proposing people use Claritin D to help manage ADHD symptoms. it just happens to be a pleasant side effect while I am taking it for this cold .

I plan to get in touch with the psychiatrist I saw 6 years ago this week and look into meds.

Yes, irritability and moodiness can definitely be related to ADD. I'd suggest seeing a practitioner - you don't want to mess around with this stuff (and I've never heard of Claritin D as a remedy, Id be cautious there)

Pseudophedrine is contraindicated during pregnancy. It raises the baby's heart rate.

Yes, it's the pseudoephedrine that does it. Similar stimulating effect as Adderall. You can just buy ephedrine OTC if you want that effect without the drowsyish antihistamine in the Zyrtec.) Or just take straight Sudafed.

I am the albuterol poster- how funny. I haven't really taken Claritin D but have been told it's safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

While Adderall, which I was on before, is not, it is really quick in your system (to get in and out). In other words, I think you could go on it now for sure (Effect is basically immediate) and then if you got pregnant, or if you wanted to be more cautious when you started trying, you could stop.

I had testing for ADHD about 6 years ago but the test results were inconclusive. They offered a trial of medication but because DH and I were trying to get pregnant I decided against it.

I've noticed that when I take Claritin-D I feel very calm and focused. I am not the poster who posted about ADD and abuteral..although I too have bronchitis and an abulteral inhaler. I came on here to see if anyone had had similar results with Claritin-D and saw the other post!

I find that I can get SO MUCH accomplished when I take Claritin-D and I don't feel as irritable and snippy but I only take it for a few days when I am sick obviously.

I would re-look into ADHD meds but DH and I will be trying for another child in about a year so I don't really know if it's a good idea..

Just curious if other people have had a similar reaction to Claritin-D?
