Just make sure you get lots of light in the space or it will look really dark.

We did that a few years ago. Loved it for about 2 years, and it really pops, so we got lots of compliments. But then we got tired of it, and it really started to irk us (even though we still got compliments) . It was a huge pain to paint over.

It looks good, but it's a bold color, so if/when you don't like it, there's no escaping. So just make sure you're certain.

try 'sensuous gray' by sherwin williams. Its a cross between gray and purple. Its not too purple, and not too cold gray. We are deciding between that color (which I love) and smoky blue (DH's choice). Both look great white bright white trim. iN either case, I will be glad to say goodbye to the 90s and our red dining room!

I painted the bottom half (below chair rail) in my dining room dusty plum (or eggplant, or whatever it's called) two years ago when we bought out house. The top half is a greyish white, and there is brown hardwood floor underneath.
I love it. The living room is neutral colors, but I carried over the purplish with pillows, a painting and drapes.
If you like it, go for it!

I just painted our bedroom "Eggplant" by Benjamin Moore. Love it., especially with the white trim and doors in our rowhouse.

I just painted my foyer a deep dusty purple and everyone is dying over it. It is gorgeous and look great with white, black, gold, silver and grey. It is "Pinot Grigio Grape" by Benjamin Moore. I picked after trying some other dark rich blue-offs and love it. Turns out it is actually a very hot color for 2014. It's not too far from eggplant.

sounds really dated. Look at houzz for modern examples (if any)

I think it may be on the way out soon, and that's one hard color to paint over.

How do you feel about it? Recommend your paint color, because I can't seem to find the shade I want....some are way too purple for me.
