The Tile Shop is good for browsing - they have example rooms/floors/walls done so you can see how different types of materials/sizes can be used. We went to the one in VA (Alexandria?) We've been very happy with the porcelain tile we bought there (don't know about their grout, though - our contractor supplied his own).

We had a bad experience with their grout. Tile itself might be okay but don't recommend getting grout from them.

Best Tile's Ellicott City's store is great. Lots of vignettes to give you ideas. Then go to Wegmans while you're out there!

+1

And even though it's small, there were a great range of options, just not as many model set ups.

I have had good experiences with Best Tile in Rockville. Their staff have been very helpful in listening to me explain what I want and what my price range is and then directing me to the best alternatives.

Architectural Ceramics for high end. The Tile Shop for basic marble or porcelain subway, hexagon, penny tiles, etc.

Low End - Home Depot, Lowes, The Tile Shop. DalTile is pretty good.

Higher End - Architectural Ceramics has some good options for not too much money. They also have very expensive tile, but it's a good range.

Highest End - Renaissance Tile, Waterworks, Ann Sacks

I am a kitchen/bathroom tile novice and don't know where to start (besides HOUZZ). I am interested in doing an accent wall or something other than subway tile in my kitchen and would like to start browsing. Where do I start?
