My family is pretty much perfect. My husband's family however, is so messed up and dysfunctional. My MIL and FIL are both mental health professionals. because of this, I pretty much have zero faith in therapists.

Not OP. Every family is messed up in some way. And if you say yours isn't, you're lying.

lots of un-dealt-with anxiety. my family doesn't talk about anything and that has created problems for me. I'm still learning to deal with it. my parents are married but talk to each other like they hate each other yet they don't really fight. they were devoted parents but didn't model a happy relationship. I can't stand to be around them together but I still see them a few times a year. my brother likes to say that it's "their way", but their way is miserable and makes me want to set my face on fire. I'd guess we're pretty normal.

Pretty messed up. Mother died early, father emotionally available. Younger sibs pretty dysfunctional and have distanced from the family. Yes, you guessed it -- I'm the oldest.

We are like this, but I would say there are definite issues, like the sprinkling of (functional)alcoholics mentioned in another post, poor communication, judgmental family members, etc. I guess everyone's definition of messed up differs, but I think ours is "somewhat" messed up.

my family is pretty messed up and we're not close at all. we've gotten together once in a dozen years and that was a year and a half ago.

In my extended family, hoarding, which has emotional impacts on my parents and me. Untreated mental illness is pretty terrible.

My family is not "messed up." I talk with my parents and siblings every few weeks, sometimes once a month. No hate or issues. Everyone is busy. We connect when we need to.

The usual sprinkling of alcoholics, I suppose.

Oh, mine is messed up but I have my limits firmly established and happily live within them.

Yes, mine is not messed up and we are close. However, hubby hasn't spoken to his remaining living relatives in more than 10 years, with good reason.
