I can't believe they don't have childcare included with the membership there! We usually go to Centreville but I was
thinking it would be fun to check out Reston.

You would think a fancier club would have better amenities, not worse. that doesn't make sense!

I'm an onyx member at 136 for a couple. I was diamond at $220 until I found about onyx. It's identical as far as I can tell. Our kids were 6 per month in Sterling but the Reston "Academy" is 40.

I think what PP is talking about is that they don't have child care per se any more, it's the "Reston Kids Academy". If you're a member and your home club is Reston you can drop off your kids no problem. But if you're a member at Chantilly, FFX, or Sterling you can't. There was quite a scene there on Saturday when a Chantilly person's kid got turned away.

I agree it's a incredible facility but not managed well.


That's correct. For Reston members the lowest level is the "land" academy ~40 per month, 3 hours a day including the basic classes. No 2 hour child care option is available anymore and they are charging for the more popular "advanced" classes. Members from other clubs have no available options for child care.

They need to figure out how not to annoy their members so much, but I hope it survives. It's a nice gym and really close to our house. I don't know though, they are struggling.

I'm a member at the Dulles Lifetime and with that have access to Reston. I pay $160/mo including my 2 children and spouse.

I've been at Lifftime since 2009 and I have NEVER had someone approach me to sell me anything. If I wanted to buy something I would simply talk to a trainer. I love all their free classes. I do not pay for personal training and have never been offered it.

I use Reston on my lunch hour and find the facilities incredible. However, I'm inclined to have an expensive gym membership, since between my DH and I we are at the gym 10xs a week-plus we take the kids on weekends. I also have signed the kids up for free Rock Climbing and Sports Clinics.


We were at Dulles since it opened. We loved it. We switched to Reston since it's blocks from where we lived and justified the additional cost in savings on toll roads. We are also gym rats and are comfortable with a premium membership though I do feel like it's overpriced.

With Dulles as your home club, if I understand the rules they put in place this weekend, your kids are no longer welcome at Reston. At a club twice as expensive as any other in the area, that sucks.

It will be a slow roll. I joined Dulles when it first opened. Steadily membership has grown. During peak times it can be way too crowded for me. 5 years ago that place was a ghost town. Now at peak hours, quite often I can't get on the leg press and the stretching matts are ALL gone. So annoying.

I just signed up at Lifetime in Fairfax - membership is $150 for the parents, and $30 for each additional kid. Our family of 5 is paying around $250 per month for basic membership.

Couple of months ago, a family of four - kids are 10 and 7 - were paying around $ 400/month for basic membership..
