This is one of my biggest gripes about my parochial kindergartener's school/class also. On indoor recess days, they watch videos. Recently, they did and I asked her what video they watched, and she told me, "Emily Elizabeth." This means a Clifford movie. I would prefer "Magic Schoolbus over Clifford any ol' day! ALSO, the Friday before Christmas, they had "Wear your jammies to school day and we'll have popcorn and watch 'Polar Express' in the afternoon!" C'mon, teachers. I totally know this is a completely babysitting activity. If I want my DD to wear jammies, eat popcorn, and watch a movie ,we can certainly do this at home. Please, I pay parochial school tuition for her to learn things, not to wear jammies, eat popcorn, and watch movies!! Get real!

Because you can't fit the entire recess group into the gym and still use the gym as a gym. And especially you can't fit the entire recess group into the gym and still use the gym as a gym, if there are also PE classes scheduled for that same time.

Because after enough indoor recesses, every kid is tired of every game in the classroom. Why not give the choice of a movie?

Because at some school there is no seperate gym so other kids are eating lunch there and if there is a gym it is likely being used for PE. Overcrowded schools need all of their space..

My Kindergartener also watched way too many videos (IMO) at school. Videos while they wait for the school bus at the end of the day. Videos during class time. Indoor recess. I don't get it. They even got to watch an ENTIRE movie once. Really?? It was supposed to be a 'treat'.

I'm not anti-Tv, but I'm not a fan of all these movies during school hours.

Magic School Bus variety. I don't have a problem with indoor recess especailly where they double the kids up in classrooms.

Often. Very often. According to my child this year they also started videos during lunch time.

Never has one of my kids mentioned watching a video at school with the exception of say a video on the process of becoming an American citizen. Your question peaked my curiousity and I asked my fifth grader who said they never watch videos for indoor recess or specials.

Unfortunately this is normal and my biggest complaint about the schools. Way too many videos.

I do appreciate the hard job teachers have and sometimes they need to have to let the kids watch a video so they can get work done or how hard it must be to entertain 25+ kids during an indoor recess but it is ridiculous. They need to find other ways without always resorting to videos.

My eyes practically rolled out of my head the other day when my dd (2nd grade) told me she and classmates won a lunch bunch with their teacher. She said they watched a video during the lunch bunch.

Promethean boards are being used as a crutch in examples like this.

At my son's school, they watch videos only during indoor recess. I have not heard that they do it during any other times.

Just moved to MoCo & our DS is in 1st. He comes home telling me about the movies he watches during indoor recess, at "movement time" and during specials if teacher is absent. Is this normal practice at other schools? How much time does your kid sit watching videos at school???
