I've never met anyone who thinks that teachers are overpaid. I do find some arguments teachers make in favor of higher pay kind of obnoxious, I suppose.

I wish we could pay teachers more. Especially my child's teacher, she overworked and under paid. I can see she is passionate about what she does, but will burn out in 5 years and take a job doing something else. She makes a fraction of what she should and my daughter loves her. I can't imagine have the passion, skill and patience to do what she does.

I am not not bothered by haters. I do a fantastic job and have been offered other jobs in corporate training. But I can't find a better fit for my family b/c I'm home with my kids. (Husband has the same position. So we take turns over the summer with childcare.)

I have a 2 undergrad degrees and a Masters - plus and additional 30+ credits over that.

Damn! What county? I make half that with the same degrees and extra credits.

A lot of the haters are anti-union types looking for union targets. Didn't you know, if we get rid of teachers' unions, we can solve all our budget and education problems in one fell swoop....

Mostly haters who have never stepped in front of a class in their life.

I don't know anyone who thinks teachers are overpaid, so isn't this a straw man?

Here is a cute take on teachers' salaries: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/02/22/948224/-Are-you-sick-of-highly-paid-teachers?detail=email#. In the name of disclosure, I admit that it's Daily Kos, so expect a liberal slant.
