No, you can order them by mail. And I recommend doing it right away--we discovered an error on ours and were able to contact the hospital and have them correct it (rather than having to go in person).

get baby's social security card
schedule newborn photographer
start college savings plan
update any daycare waiting lists with baby name and DOB

Oh, I read lots--but really light chick lit. My baby was a slow nurser.

Have all your addresses ready beforehand and buy stamps and address labels (heck, have them printed) so it is easier to send announcements.

Have driving or mass transit directions printed out for out-of-town people (like grandparents) who come to visit and stay and then don't know how to get to the grocery store.

Have someone return all your library books. You won't be able to read a book again for a long time. Have that person pick up magazines. Short articles will become your friend.

I'm trying to make a list of the various logistical things that we need to do after the baby is born because I don't think I'll be thinking clearly then. So far I have on my list:

-call insurance company to add baby
-inform employer to start maternity leave
- change beneficiary designations for life insurance/401k to add baby as contingent beneficiary
-send hard copy and email baby announcement

What other things like this need to be done?
