It's also just a sign of something that person is interested in and participates in. I would bet you have some type of symbol somewhere that would lead people to conclusions about your interests, hobbies, or likes. Some people have dog stickers, peace stickers, or stickers of charities they support. Let's not forget the college license plate covers and stickers. My child is a honor student sticker. Oh and magnets from all of the local schools.

Also, in the clothes you wear or things you carry? You don't have any tees or sweatshirts from college? You are seemed offended when the only thing I can think for a reason to be offended is jealousy.

+1. Among the triathlete community it's a huge major achievement. Like any other bumper sticker, t-shirt or logo, it demonstrates an affiliation or interest. Partly a brag, but also partly self-identification with a particular community of interest. No more or less a brag than having an OBX or Harvard sticker on your car.

These things are all obnoxious.

I have done a half, and am not a bragger, but I sure as heck will get myself an MDot if I ever do an Ironman!

Yep. It means someone has ran an ironman. Many people get them on their ankle tattooed too.

A red (usually) M with a dot over it. I saw it on a car recently and just learned it is called an M-dot and it is the Ironman logo. Just wondering if others like me didn't know what that was.
