I don't have first hand experience with catholic schools in PG, but both of my nephews attended PG Catholic schools. I can tell you this, my older nephew who attended the same catholic school from K to 8 hated the school, and the academics were sub par. My younger nephew attended the same school as his brother..... as of this school year my SIL put both of them in catholic schools in AA County and both of the boys are doing much better. My younger nephew a 3rd grader is reading at a 1st grade level and is getting help, the PG County school didn't challenge him or acknowledge his lack of reading ability. As soon as he stepped into this new school his reading score and math score were below levels and immediately addressed.

Please be specific as far as which public elementary school. If it's kingsford elementary, that's a great school.

What public school do you feed into?

There's a website (pg county school locator -- google it) where you can type in your street address, and it will let you know the school your child would attend.

Then go to the greatschools website or some other website where there are reviews of the school and some other information regarding scores, et cetera.

It's worth looking into.

I think it depends on the school. My child attended Catholic for pre-K and I liked the environment, but when thinking about older grades there is only 2-3 classes per grade and catholic schools tend to have larger class sizes than other privates. I wondered how they would reasonably address the various levels of performance in larger classroom settings. In addition, I am not catholic so once you get into some of the teachings in middle school regarding social policy I would not have been onboard. In the lower grades it is very general stuff like God created families and the importance of treating people with respect, which I thought was great.

I am unsure I would think that the public schools near woodmore elementary school or even kingsford are great elementary schools. It is a nice area so I cannot see why this area would have nothing but great elementary schools.

My daughter goes to kindergarten this year. Debating between catholic and public school (kingsford/woodmore area)? Are the catholic schools in pg county better than public? Is public better than catholic? I notice that catholic schools are beginning registration soon for new students and wanted to make a decision.
