Yeah, it's the wealthiest county. Because the wealthiest are so wealthy they pull all statistical measures up. Nevertheless, we have countless students, entire districts even, that DO NOT have the resources to face 2 degree temps. Frankly, I am amazed that mcps couldn't at least wait until the am to decide. As an educator in a lower income region, i witness, teach, know, and love these kids, many of whom are latchkey kids, who wake, dress, and let themselves out every morning. They don't know how to dress for this weather, if they even own the right attire. And those are just the kids I know.

Yep, each of my kids spent two years in a portable and they were toasty. The walk to and from the school will be cold, though, but those are quick.

If your child's asthma is acting up, by all means keep them home.

There are poor people, asthmatic people, and people without cars all over the country, going about their business every day.

Wait times at bus stops are not long, and schools are well-heated.

Everything will be fine.

Any teacher who's taught in a portable and whose children are stuck in one would keep his/her kid home tomorrow.

Portables are awful.

By this logic you would keep the schools closed all winter.

This is the wealthiest country in the world. Don't tell me that we have to close schools because we cannot afford to ensure everyone has a coat, hat, scarf and gloves!

If they close you'll write back to complain that the kids aren't getting fed at home so school should have been open for the free meals. It's really impossible to please everyone with these decisions, but since tomorrow will be dry-0% chance of precipitation-it seems totally reasonable.

Well obviously everyone has to use their best judgment for their own kids, but it seems unnecessary to close schools for everyone even if a few kids have to stay home for health reasons.

It is cold. Bundle up you kid and if you have a car and can, then drive them. I do not see the big deal.

Howard Co - leaving room for a possible decision change:

As of 4:45 p.m., Monday, Jan. 6, HCPSS parents, students and staff should prepare for an on-time opening of all schools and offices for Tuesday, Jan. 7.

I don't expect this to change.

Starr is clearly trying to puff his chest. If Ho Co and Frederick close, he's screwed himself again.
