Discounts available broadly to all federal employees are usually fine. See:

or: http://www.oge.gov/Topics/Gifts-and-Payments/Gifts-from-Outside-Sources/

We use one for our cell phone (AT&T formerly, not TMobile) and have used it for computer purchases (Dell and Apple).

There is a federal discount for mac laptops, I just bought one and I want to say it was either $100 or $200 (I really can't remember) off sticker price.

Under certain circumstances you can receive discounts as a fed employee. There are exceptions to the general "no free stuff" ethics rules. The phone discounts fall within an exception.

Hotels often have a government rate. Some are only for employees on official travel orders, some can also be used for leisure travel for Feds. Just depends on the hotel.

Cell phone plan. Some rental companies offer a discount but not many. If you have your badge on you, you get 10% off at Smithsonian cafeterias.

I'm new to the federal government and understand that there are many places that recognize federal employment status. Thanks!
