DS had them when he started at Ashburton. I never thought about it, and no one said anything.

It was only the first week or two, though, and then we (the back-to-school procrastinators) got him new shoes that happen not to be light-up. So not sure, but I don't think anyone's going to make a big deal about it.

My kindergartner wears them to a different Bethesda ES. Never really thought it might be an issue. Oops? Haven't heard anything from the teacher/school. They aren't as flashy as some.
