If there's space in the class, then yes. I know there is at least one current 3rd grade spot open, but I am not sure where they cap the class size. If you're interested, give them a call or an e-mail to the admissions director and ask. We found him to be very responsive and easy to work with.

Landon is actuallty fine for non-athletic kids who enjoy playing sports (it an every day requirement) - which seems to be what OP indicated about her son. If a child does not like playing sports - Landon would be a bad fit.

Norwood took several new girls and boys in 3rd grade this year. A few leave to other schools at that grade.

I would recommend none of these schools for what OP describes. They are all competitive (except for maybe BUllis), traditional.

Look at Sheridan, Sandy Springs Friends, Burgandy Farms, Green Acres.

You just have to go to the schools and see for yourself. Landon does not have a great reputation for non-athletes, but that being said -- it is a stellar fit for some. I hear amazing things about the Field School from every parent that has a kid there. And perhaps Waldorf may be a fit, too.

Thanks so much. How is Landon for an artsy, non-athletic, slightly shy boy? And to be honest, DS is not a Big 3 kind of kid (which is fine by me), so Sidwell et al? aren't really options.

The current school is great; the drawbacks are that it is possibly too small in a social sense, and it's pretty traditional in many of its learning and teaching methods. Our sense is that a more progressive, more hands-on approach might be a better fit for our DS. He is not particularly athletic but loves PE and exercise. He enjoys science and the arts so Burke or Field might work well but they don't start until 6th grade. We need something in DC or MD and would consider schools that end at 8th grade and those with high schools. Finally, DS would do better in a lower pressure environment that encourages cooperation over competition.

Can anyone suggest schools that fit at least some of these criteria and might have 3rd grade openings? Thank you.
