I don't follow the guidelines too closely but raw meat and eggs make me nervous. It is rare that I vote for a toss but this time I do. If you could have gotten a neighbor to put it on when you first posted..that I would be ok with.

Throw it out. Don't risk getting salmonella.

Toss it -- sorry!

This definitely sounds like something I would do! I wouldn't take any chances eating it. Next time put a reminder sticky note for yourself on the door/mirror to turn it on.

You should probably plan on cleaning it up for your husband and picking up dinner. And some nice lovins too.

I'll see how it smells at the end of the day, but it may be masked by the sauce.

OMG - YOU WILL GET VERY SICK!!!!! Chicken left unrefrigerated all day would make you sick. Dont eat it.

Too much food paranoia here.

I've only had really bad food poisoning one time--from cooked lamb--about 25 years ago. Let me just say . . . never again will I take chance. We were so weak after about 36 hours that we were literally crawling to the bathroom. Raw chicken out all day? It's awful to do, but I'd toss it!

Call a neighbor and have them turn it on for you. I do not use ours when we are not home.

Yes, you need to toss it. You have raw chicken sitting on the counter all day.

Sorry.

If it was already thawed before this morning, honestly, I'd toss it. Yeah, it sucks, but food poisoning with a toddler would suck worse. Sorry OP!

PS. We have done this too.

Is the chicken partially frozen? Crock pots are insulating, so it will keep it cooler than say, chicken sitting on the counter. I'd see how cool it feels when you get home. If it's warm-ish or is giving off a smell, I'd toss.

We don't use the crockpot much but I have a good bbq chicken recipe that we make every now and then. We've never done the "turn on the crockpot in the morning, have a fantastic meal waiting when you get home" but were going to try that today. Prepped it last night. This morning I took it out of the fridge but forgot to turn the crockpot on. Do I need to toss it when I get home? Will the chicken be bad after sitting out all day? It's got some acidic ingredients - worchestire (sp?), cider vinegar, ketchup. Would that keep the chicken from going bad so we could just flip on the crockpot this afternoon for a late dinner?

I am so pissed at myself.
