NP here and I find that they put unnecessarily long holds on checks.

Us too. I can deposit checks by smartphone, use online banking, use POPMoney to transfer allowance to my kids accounts, etc. Easy to move money from citi to Cap One. I have citigold which has free checks, free wires, etc.

We use Penfed credit union for all of our day to day stuff. Also use Ally for medium term savings because they have a little better interest rate.

We just got Capitol One for high interest checking, they are paying 1% but I think you have to have a balance of $25k.

Credit Union for checking and Fidelity for saving.

Money markets and "high yield" don't pay anything these days. Better off avoiding the fee, frankly.

Cardinal bank-- currently offering 1% interest on checking and they'll reimburse $10 or so of ATM fees (they only have a few branches though-- Va, Georgetown and Bethesda).

BofA is kind of evil if you have been following the foreclosure stories.

We currently have a BoA checking that is completely free, but only because we maintain 5K in a BoA Savings earning basically no interest. I'de like to make that 5K work for me in at least a money market or high yeild savings account (Amex or Capitol One 360). I'm considering moving our checking to an online bank with no fees and no minimum balance (Ally?). On the other hand, we have been with BoA for 20 years and have no real complaints.

What ank do you use for everyday checking and savings?
