I have a navy blue dress so it wouldn't be a big deal but if I didn't and was planning on buying a dress to wear, I would attempt to look for something navy but wouldn't sweat it if I couldn't find anything. You did not agree to be in the wedding party so therefore should not be expected to do what you're told.

Surely you can go to Target and find a navy shirt. It is not that difficult. You just want to be difficult.

Agree. It's ridiculous to demand guests wear a certain color to a party where they are already expected to give a gift. Honestly, if it were me, I would

a) ignore request and wear want I want, bearing a gift
b) buy a nice new navy blue outfit, and bring a card with the receipt for the new outfit, including a note explaining that since I had to buy something new and navy blue, that was my engagement gift to the couple
c) just decline the invitation entirely.

Yes, please ignore. And when you get the wedding invitation telling you what gift to get them (donate to our honeymoon fund, give us cash, etc) ignore that as well.

Not just her wedding party, every single person there. This is strange, yes? She says this is a concession to her fiance, since his favorite color is blue but everything in their wedding will be pink. I'm guessing that her fiance actually does not give a crap, since he is, you know, a man. I really don't want to buy a navy blue formal-ish outfit for this. For whatever reason, I don't have anything navy in my wardrobe other than an older sweater. I kept my eye out on a trip to the mall before Christmas and I didn't see anything nice in that color. I'm thinking that's as much as I am going to do, if I happen to find something nice before the party in blue, fine, if not, I'll wear something really nice and non-blue that I already have.
