If you enjoy your job and it provides you with a good work-life balance you should embrace it. In my experience, most jobs that have salaries in the 400k plus range require extremely long hours and frequent travel. To make it work you often need an extremely supportive spouse or very dedicated live-in help to ensure that everything at home is running smoothly.

I keep thinking that someday I'll marry some money and get my HHI above $100k and then I remember that I'm already married. Oh well, maybe in my next life...

Hey fellow single mom. I am a single mom too and I make $70k a year,went to great schools and have a master's degree. I struggle every month to make ends meet. It can be depressing sometimes but you know what, it will get better. I am hopeful

This. I find middle class to be the sweet spot with good values. Too little or too much makes for more unethical behavior.

Another single mom here making less than 100k. Yes, there are many women on this board with household incomes of $200k+. But what does it matter? It's like reading Vogue so you can get depressed about not being able to afford a $600 cardigan.

The incomes here are higher than average because there is a disproportionate number of lawyers in Washington because of Congress and lobbying firms. Also, military contractors and govt workers who get great benefits. But while people here may be making more than average, the cost of homes is equally high so they really don't have as much discretionary income as you'd think, particularly folks in DC who pay for private school.

It just makes the DMV harder for single moms who make a good salary but can't keep up with some of the white collar dual incomes. I just don't pay attention and focus on things that matter (I.e. Family, friends , health etc).

We just moved to the area from NYC. Most of our friends in our circles earn $200-1 million. They have graduate degrees (JD, MD, MBA, MS Engineering) from top universities. I think the finance guys earn the most in sales and trading, investment banking, private equity, etc. I think they are closer to the $1 million. I believe our doctor and lawyer friends earn similar incomes based on their specialties. The engineers probably make the least. You always hear about these tech entrepreneurs but we don't know any personally.

I am a pr person and I earn 89K + bonus, 15 years experience but new to area & I should have asked for more when I took the job, but slowly came to the same realization as you - that salary is too low and I feel poor compared to everyone else!! And I have as much education as these lawyers!!

No biggie, not jealous, grateful for what I have.....just wanted to share - I keep reading on this forum that people earn 300+/ 500+/800+ per year, i.e. USD.
Wow, I did not know there were so many people in the DC area who earn so much...just curious...what do these people do, and what kind of degrees do they have? Obviously I am in the wrong field of work....with my miserable salary....at least I have very good benefits, i.e. for US standards, so that puts a smile on my face.
