I understand that you were embarrassed by her behavior. But why did you feel you needed to point out to her that Macy's was right? It seems like you're not on her side in any way.

Macy's is at fault for lack of straightforward pricing.

She's a chiseler (dishonest), or stupid. Not a good sign.

Too long! Maybe the first time was when she burst into tears b/c Disney World was closed.

How long have you been married? Looking back, what signs did you see (and probably ignore or rationalize) regarding this behavior?

Yeah, it's her world! Speed limits are for other people, for example, but not her and the "cops are out to get her."

Damn. That's not just a personality flaw, that's stupidity that she thinks she could do that. Got any more examples, OP?

I have a friend like that. She often gets parking tickets for parking illegally and then gets upset and refuses to acknowledge that she had, in fact, NO right to park there!

Very strange.

But all these people with these idiosyncracies are otherwise normal and rational, so that is why we keep them in our lives.

That's my DH. He would totally do that, too. And he often embarrasses me. Has to always be the center of attention.

Good for you for not being one of those "wimpy" husbands!

I know this is only one example, but I wonder if her poor behavior happens often. If it's often you need to have a conversation with her, perhaps there underlying problems to her attitude.

Don't go to the store to return items with her.

Your wife sucks! If I did that to my DH, he would do the same thing you did. Why did you marry her?!

My DW's behavior embarrasses me. Yesterday is one example. She wanted to return a gift she received to Macy's. She had the gift receipt. After returning the item she notices the same item for sale at twice the price she was refunded on the gift card. She returns to the cashier and starts to argue she is entitled to the current sale price. I pointed out she is getting what was paid for the gift. On the way home, she rips into me for not supporting her. I am sorry dear, but you were wrong and I was not about to get in a public argument with the Macy's manager when you had no leg to stand on.
