I would stay home to concentrate without any distractions. And if you finish early, go over and enjoy family time.

OP here. I went. I was afraid that my in-laws would think that I created an excuse. Coming here is a huge mistake. It took me two hours to extricate myself from the family and I would have been far more productive at home.

I guess I forgot (or toned down) how truly important xmas is to my in-laws, and they wanted a full play-by-play recitation of xmas eve, x-mas day, all of the presents, etc. Ugh. Alas. Tomorrow my DH will take our kids out to play and I'll probably have the house to myself or I can go to the library.

How will your inlaws reacting to you working? I own my own business and my mother flips out every time my cell phone makes a noise. She stops mid-sentence and stomps out of the room. So, if I had to work, I'd never do it around my mother even if I explained the only way I could come is to work.

I would give anything for an excuse like this to stay home. How did you pull off the impecable timing on this OP? It even sounds authentic!

How far away are inlaws. Perhaps you stay home and can drive to inlaws once your work is completed. If it were me, I would stay home and love it!!!

I would stay home. It will give you a break and your in-laws can have their son to themselves.

Assuming you enjoy your ILs' company and vice versa and that you can get just as much work done there as at home, I'd go and just hang out when you can. If you could use a little break from company and/or kids, though, stay home and use any spare time you can eek out to take a bubble bath or read a good book or watch some grown-up shows or something. I don't think there's anything rude or unfriendly about either option.

I'd probably stay home if I thought my DH could handle the kids by himself. But it might depend on how many hours I expected to have to work and how I might be able to work around planned family activities.

I have had a work issue arise and I have to work this weekend. This was not entirely unexpected, and I warned my DH that it might happen. I can do everything remotely, and there is no need for me to go into the office. Do I go away with the family to visit the inlaws this weekend and hide in the guest room/library to get my work done and come out as work permits or should I stay home?
