Watch out for their lacquer finish. It does not last. It is so soft I can scratch it off with my fingernail. We have had the Andover walnut table for a couple of years now, and I can't wait to take my orbital sander to it and then Arm-R-Seal it. Just not doing it yet because we have small kids (but the table was ruined pre-kids, just from regular use). Otherwise it's nice and solid, but that factory sprayed lacquer finish is not good for a table top.

That's what we did. If you find yourself in Rockville, I'd also check out Little Homestead-- very nice wood furniture, all made in America. We found the quality was much higher than C&B but the prices were comparable.

Thomasville makes custom tables. Your designer should be able to help find the right one for your space.

Our Pottery Barn table has lasted for 15 years, and yup it has a couple of nicks because we use it every day, but I have zero quality complaints. There aren't a lot of moving pieces on a table to break...chairs are another matter.

Excellent quality & great selection of hardwoods.

If you go R&B, make sure that the legs of the table are not screwed in, but are doweled.

Where do people get dining room tables these days to last a lifetime?

I'm not really interested in a Crate & Barrel/Pottery Barn kind of store, because everything I have ever bought from those places doesn't hold up. I'm looking for something that I will keep forever. But I am drawing a blank as to where to even start looking?
