OP here, it wasn't only a bruise but it was a small bump too.

I would just like to know if something happens. Like in pre school her teacher calls me, even though not so serious.
When a class mate threw sand on her face and got in her eye..

A bump in the head with a blue bruise, i would like to know.

Otherwise, she said, she would have to call and leave a message, because parents had to be notified when a child came to the nurse for such a thing.

So... sounds like you should have been notified, but for some reason weren't, although since your daughter is fine, you might want to just let it go. Maybe they forgot, maybe they misdialed, maybe they have the wrong phone number on file for you--I would probably check on that last possibility.

+1

This is the policy at our elementary school. Any possibility if a head injury and a parent gets a phone call. I've gotten plenty over the years!

Worth calling to ask. Doesn't hurt.

At my MCPS, our nurse (not a nurse really, a health tech, I think?) calls for almost anything. Just to let us know. And, any remote possibility of a head injury - they send home a letter about signs of concussions!

Maybe over the top, but I appreciate it.

I think it's fine to call and ask.

Why don't you go to recess with your child from now on?

Thanks for that suggestion! I already do that. I particularly enjoy kickball and jump roping.

Once my child had a bad accident on the playground and no one called home. I emailed the teacher who must have called the nurse, because the nurse called me back friendly as ever and explained what happened. So, just call, you have every right to know what happened.

If she saw the nurse, there should be some record that gets sent back to the teacher. I'm not sure if it gets sent home as well. Kids go to the nurse during recess all the time for all kinds of reasons - I used to volunteer at my son's school, and can remember taking one kid because the strap on her sandal broke, and another because she lost a tooth. Still, to me any head injury deserves scrutiny. Maybe start with the teacher (s/he may or may not know) and then escalate.

I know you are talking about elementary school, but our preschool calls if there are any injuries above the neck (regardless of the extent of the injury). I actually think this is a good policy. I am with the OP. I think I would like the call, then I can decide what I would like to do (if anything).

What did you need a call? What would you have done?

No call. I'm sure the office told your daughter that just to make her feel better. The child was ok and able to tell you what happened, so not a big deal.

How much of a bruise? I once picked my son up from camp with a lump that made me think I should consider the ER (bounced out of a bounce house on to pavement). I would have liked a call. Small black and blue mark that only would catch a mom's eye..no call needed.

I would do nothing. Why do you need to be called for a bruise? If the nurse or office called every parent whose kid had a bruise they would need to put in a separate line.

No big deal. Kids fall all the time.

My DD comes home today with a bruise on her head, she said she fell on ice, while playing around in recess, but no one from the school called me... Even though she said that the office said they would call, but I didn't receive any calls.

Would I be "annoying" parent if I were to call the school and asked why no one called?

Even though she said it doesn't hurt anymore, I would still like to know what's happening....

What would you parents do?
