thanks! 15:45 --- we're definitely thinking along these lines if we do it. plenty of booze, good eats, maybe one game and some sort of reveal. and close family and a handful of extremely close friends --- all of whom will be told not to bring gifts (would stipulate in invite) and not to feel obligated to attend....

I'll say they are both stupid and fun. Some people will always roll their eyes at it, and other will always squeal with delight. Where do your friends and family fall?

If I did one, I'd invite only our close family and friends. I'd try to keep the "theme" more general adult-party, and then just do one activity or something that reveals the sex to the group. Serve booze and don't buy a ton of pastel pink and blue shit. Then it's just like any other party I'd want to go too, but with a baby themed 3 minutes in the middle of it.

We had a get together with friends this summer "Burgers and Pies + a Surprise". It was a laid back backyard grill-fest and we had people drink from either pink or blue solo cups and then announced it after we ate, before we dug into the pies. It was pretty low-key but our friends all seemed to have a good time. We're the first in our group to have a baby, so it's kind of new for all of us!

Stupid. If you want to have a party, just have a party. We had a party and the theme was "we might not be having another party for a while after the baby is born so let's have one now." It was awesome.

Do I have to bring a gift, hostess, or otherwise, to this fucking party?

Most of my friend have had gender reveal predictions from chinese, sweet salty preference, etc on a bulletin board. Also when you come in most parties make you choose which team you're on (team pink or team blue) with either leis or pins.

Honestly, it seems kind of narcissistic, since the "surprise" is of most interest to you. But why not just have a cocktail (well, with nonalcoholic beverages too) and make it a subject of conversation. Oh, and have cute gender themed desserts (I am dreaming of pink/blue petit fours now!)

I promise that no one cares but you and possibly your parents. Please don't' invite your friends to a gender reveal party.

I promise, no one is as excited as you & your husband are to find out the sex of your baby. If you want to have a party, good food & wine, and then just announce it at a toast, that would your best option.

google. baby reveal cakes, lots of good laughs

used to think they were dumb, now I'm 18 weeks and kinda loving the idea of getting close friends and family together for a happy occasion that isn't a wedding and finding out surrounded by our favorite people.

DH fears it will be awkward --- thoughts? Tips on activities to make it fun? thanks in advance
