Our son actually started around the same age as your child is now, but I don't think most programs allow kids that young. Starting at around 3 and after potty training is nearly done is more normal. The application process varies, but if you're not putting your child in until 3, I think you have at least another 8 months before you need to worry about it.

My kids started at 3 and 4, and we've been really happy. We're at msnv, so they do take 2yo for the preprimary level.

What regulates that in Virginia is whether or not the Montessori school you're considering has a daycare license. If they have a daycare license, they can accept younger children in diapers in their toddler program, if they have one. Otherwise, it's usually 2 and 9 months and potty-trained by the first day of school.

My child is 16 months and we are very happy with his current daycare situation. I think he would do well in Montessori in the future. When do most kids start preschool? When do I need to start putting in applications. We're in the Falls Church/Annandale area.

Thanks!
