NP, it's also important to understand that if you don't get in in round 1, there are still however many hundred(s) of people now ahead of you on the waitlist for the most popular schools. Applying the day after round 1 lottery (whatever the rules are about that) will NOT get you ahead of anyone already on the waitlist from round 1.

So maybe a lot of people who get shut out completely in round 1 will be calling schools trying to figure out what to do and how to re-apply (totally understandable question and anxiety), but unfortunately it's probably not going to help those people much, except maybe for a bit less-in-demand schools that a lot of people didn't apply to at all in round 1.

It does make sense to have a Round 2. Odds are, even between DCPS and charters, a big % of people are going to have most of the same 15 or so schools on their lists (with the main distinguishing factor being people only applying to schools they live near or work near, which might change up the lists more). Round 2 will give people the chance to apply to the next 15 or so most popular schools, or to apply to a school you're really not sure about but interested in.

It makes sense to limit round 2 only to people who got totally shut out in round 1 and new applicants. If you get into one of your 1-12 pics in round 1, you shouldn't be able to apply to others. This really will go a long way to really cutting out the people holding actual school slots or great waitlist numbers at multiple schools.

And I hear the schools will be much more linked on acceptances as well. So it'll be way way WAY harder to hold an actual spot at 2 schools. Progress!

Now we just need enough great schools for everyone...

Yes - though you would be wait listed at all your round 1 picks, so you might get in off the waitlists at a future date.

If you are the OP and your original question was "I'm assuming the day of the lottery or day after that school's will be crazy busy fielding new applications to get on the wait list", nowhere in there does it describe the situation of moving to the city after round 2. It describes the situation of many entitled people feeling like they got screwed in the lottery the day after results are announced so they'll try to take it into their own hands and add themselves to schools' waitlists. Not going to happen, folks.

All the schools have agreed to use My school dC to do apps. If you want to get on manually, you might be able to--but that would be after the second lottery in may.

MySchoolDC will be the application portal for all participating schools until October 5th.
