Will never forget when my neighbor sent her sick son to school and then went to the mall. I was the emergency "number"............did not appreciate it.

Oh well, you probably have a Sahm AND a live in nanny if you are in HK. So 48 hours is more doable.

Former Kindergarten teacher here, and keep your phone on you. If you answer on the 72nd try at 3 p.m. and say "Oh, I thought you might call, he threw up last night! Sorry I didn't call you back earlier, I was getting a massage and I turned off the phone so I could relax", the teacher might judge you.

Thanks for the advice.
DC felt fine within several hours of puking -- took short nap and woke up okay.
Had no other symptoms so went to school next day.
No more puking. Maybe DC ate something that didn't agree with stomach.
I'm not a puker and DC isn't normally one so it was good to ask for advice

Oh gosh, if I kept my kid home every time she threw up, then she would be out all the fricken time. She's a puker!

If she is throwing up and also has a fever, or diarrhea, etc, then that's a different story.

If your kid feels fine tomorrow, I would have no qualms about sending her/him.

As long as the child is acting fine and has kept a meal down for a period of time I would send. Stomach bugs can be very short lived..

I agree with other posters. If your child is fine in the morning (no temp, acting normal, normal coloring)....then off to school!

As a parent, I always cringe because the little ones usually announce to the teacher that they threw up! : )

Our elementary school (FCPS) has the same rule. Don't they all?

my kid has gotten sick at daycare / and school and they have kept them - just called to give me a heads up.

Since the school knows there are a bunch of different reasons someone can get sick.

If I was unsure if something else was brewing, I would keep them home (especially this time of year).

You have 10 hours before school - see how the morning goes.

Kids (and adults) vomit for all sorts of reasons. I think that rule is meant to be interpreted with some common sense and is really for when your child has been sick with a stomach virus. I think if you are comfortable that your child is not actually sick, you are okay.

So day care/preschool rule was always no school for 24 hrs after vomiting.

Do you follow that same rule for young elementary kid?

Asking because mine threw up early this evening but seems better now.

Debating what to do about tomorrow and school (assuming of course no more vomiting tomorrow/early am and on no fever or other symptoms).
