I like this. I am going to try it myself. Not the OP. I am also in the same situation...and it takes me TOOOOO long to get over it....

Sometimes years...sorry OP, we've all been there and it isn't pleasant.

OP, the quickest way to get over someone is to get under someone else...or get in front of someone else or get on top of someone else (however way you prefer it).

Point is, something or someone new, different and exciting will make you forget your ex in an instant. For me, it's has been travel, a new hobby, new guy, etc. etc.

You need to have in your mind that he died. Let yourself mourn, but know that healthy people move on. In a way it is like he died ~ who you thought he was/your plans together have died. Keep thinking he's died.

1/2 the time you were together ~ as long as there is no back-sliding, contact, rekindled hope. Otherwise, you start the process all over again.

OP: Thanks for the responses. Guess I feel better knowing I'm not alone but the prospect of months/years feeling like this does not feel encouraging. Uy. Trying not to fantasize about reconciliation too much.

For one like yours, where I thought he was the one, 2 years after a two year relationship.

It's obviously going to vary for everyone, and every relationship. I've had years long relationships that I've barely mourned at all, and unrequited crushes that lasted years. Honestly, the last heartbreak was a relationship that lasted about a year, and took years for me to truly get over. I mean, I wasn't still crying or losing sleep over him or anything, but to the point where the idea of running into him didn't terrify me. And I didn't really get there until I really fell for someone else.

But to where I felt like I was no longer reeling? I guess that took about 4-5 months, but he worked at the same company, so I ran into him on occasion, which didn't help. He moved away a few months after that, which helped a lot.

Been two months now and still reeling. Only 6 month relationship but very intense. Thought he was the one. He ended it. Been through other relationships but never felt like this...
