Clearly they were and are grateful to have you, too. They sound like wonderful people--and so do you. This story gave me a pick-up today. Merriest of Christmases to you.

Yes,I would do a stocking for her, socks, chapstick, etc as PP mentioned are good ideas. I put in holiday theme chocolates, like Reese's pb christmas trees or a chocolate santa and tangerines or clementines.

Yes, before we were married or engaged my in laws hung stockings for me and exchanged gifts with me. The stocking wasn't needed but I was touched and thought it meant they wanted me in their family

Just a dollar store stocking and some practical stuffers (chapstick, silly socks, etc. from Dollar Store) will show her she is included and welcome.

She didn't spend Thanksgiving here and won't be here for Christmas. She goes to her family. She knows we barely have enough money to provide gifts for our three younger children, so trying to provide gifts for her and my older son is a stretch. I am on disability with limited income. We will hang a stocking for her and provide gifts one way or another.

For the lovely people who made the comments 8:37 and 8:43, thank you for you less than pleasant comments. I'm sorry if I seemed inconsiderate to you for even asking the question. I was thrown into this situation without knowing at first, so I'm still figuring things out. It is Christmas, so try to be a little more considerate in your response. Cursing is uncalled for.

Shouldn't anyone who is at your house on Christmas morning get a stocking? I'm Jewish but when I visited my Christian cousins at Easter, my aunt made me an Easter basket. I loved it and still remember it 25 years later.

Yes. She gets a stocking and you need to buy her some presents to make her feel included- nice shampoo, DVD, little things.

Seriously. Why would this even be a question? Of course she should have a stocking.

If she'll be there on Christmas, then yes. If not, I don't think you need to.

My 20 year old son's girlfriend is living with us while she finishes school. We have hung stockings for the family and I was wondering if I should hang one for her to make her feel included. I don't need responses regarding the issue of her living with us. I just wanted other people's opinion on the stocking. She is not involved with the family at all, but then again neither is my oldest son for the most part.
