I'm not PP, but I doubt it. It means literally clean and not run down. I moved to MN from Chicago and it's weird how clean they keep everything.

Hamline is a completely different experience than the U. And if you are looking for a smaller, private, urban college in the Twin Cities, I would say Macalaster is a far better school than Hamline.

From this area - expressing interest may be important. I was surprised that the few, pretty well qualified applicants from our high school over the years did not get in - not a one. None of them had visited. Last year a student who had visited and contacted the admission rep was admitted. This is unusual for a large state U where showing interest usually isn't a factor.

Didn't know about the reciprocity. That's interesting, thanks. And didn't mean to be disparaging about real need for accommodations (I could use those myself).

There is reciprocity between Minnesota and Wisconsin, so UMinn is really the second fiddle among Wisconsin/Minnesota residents.

Wisconsin may end the reciprocity soon, which might help UMinn move out of the shadow of UW, but would not be good for students resident in Minnesota.

I did my freshman year there - big Greek scene. My friends loved it. Pretty campus, cold cold cold in winter. I remember my classes being enormous, but the small group discussions were really challenging and I loved them.

I did end up transferring to U Wisconsin, but I enjoyed visiting the school after I left.

DH graduated form UMinn. We're both mid-westerners living in NoVa for the past 15 yrs. It's a VERY large and spread out school. He went there b/c at the time UWisc. didn't have an aerospace eng. program. He thinks fondly of his time in school. Culturally, your kid will be among nice mid-western kids (who are not generally as privileged, and don't think it's beneath them to work a min. wage job). Downside might be that midwestern companies are most likely to recruit there. If your kid will likely go to grad school, it might not matter. And, of course, it wouldn't be a bad thing if your kid settled in the mid-west and met a mid-west girl or boy there.

Minneapolis has a high happiness factor. (Yes, yes, some don't like the weather.)

Friends who teach there find the students hard working, with less feelings of entitlement than they found in east coast SLACs. (They never hear, "I couldn't finish my paper, I ran out of my ADD meds," at Minnesota. And I'm not knocking real ADD-please don't misinterpret this.)

Anyone have any student or parent reports?

Also, OOS tuition?
