I know several people who went there. They were pleased with their education. It's well-known for computer science.

PP - And, the President believes strongly that STEM graduates MUST have incorporate liberal arts with the sciences to be the very best.

It has changed TREMENDOUSLY since then. When I was growing up, that's what it was. Now, it graduates more people of color and women in STEM then any other university in the country. The President is freaking amazing and a visionary. Johns Hopkins has been begging him to come for years and he just refuses.

I've heard this sentiment from older alums, but I've had good experiences with my UMBC hires.

Agreed. I don't see much difference in the quality of kids from either. Both have been excellent sources of really talented software engineers. Not sure what it's like for other majors.

Yes, I think it has a better reputation than it used to.

I think it's less of a commuter school than it used to be.

There was an interview with the president on NPR earlier this year, and it seems like he has an interesting vision on undergraduate STEM pedagogy.

I know several people whose kids go there, and they have few complaints. We toured it last year with our eldest. She didn't like the suburban setting of the campus, but I was really impressed by the the programs and student services. I understand that the president is really great, too.

I don't think my daughter will apply, but I think it's a great place for the right kid.

I know tons of people who went to college there; I work in IT. It's a good school for CS, especially for the price. Not much of a "college" experience if that is what you're looking for. It has a lot of commuter kids.
