I am PP..Bar-T at our school even changed entrances so there would be no direct access to the kids after coming in the door (after Newtown). We used to go right in to the APR now you can only enter through a hall enterance.

Wow. I wonder why our school doesn't do this. Our school front doors are open and the Bar-T room is wide open too. Hmpph.

The front doors at our elem school are unlocked. We have a Bar-T program.

We have a kidsco program - doors to the aftercare room are unlocked. But you can enter the rest of the school that way. Figured it was the only way to let parents in to get kids. What other alternative would there be if the office is closed? Now that I think about it, I would prefer locked doors. How do other schools deal with getting parents in and out?

As far as I know, the main doors are kept unlocked after regular school hours so that kids/parents can come in and out for afterschool actvities--there are quite a few every day. The APR, where Bar-T is located, has the outer door locked.

Picked up my kids tonight at an MCPS elementary school--they had basketball practice. The doors were unlocked and the bar-T kids were still there. In order to give the team access to the building, they have to keep the outer doors unlocked. My kid doesn't attend the school.

Our Bar-T doors are locked. Call the central office and inquire/complain.

The school where I work has doors unlocked after school on one day when the media center is rented for a class. None of those people work there, so how else are they supposed to get in?

They should be locked. If they aren't, you shouldn't announce it publicly you should make sure the school locks them. Use your head and common sense.

I recently started my DC at the aftercare program (Bar-T) at a Montgomery County elementary school and was surprised to see that the front doors of the school are left unlocked. I asked about this and the program director said the county uses the school for different purposes and so they keep it unlocked. Does anyone else have this experience?
