Yes, and in fact a lot of shellfish was originally poor people's food! Oysters, mussels, etc. I think because it could be easily scavenged by anyone with access to the coast. But now that it is more scarce and people like to eat it away from the coast, it is considered a delicacy.
That said, lobster is delicious! But like a lot of shellfish, it is a subtle, sweet flavor - not huge and meaty and in your fAce like a steak.
