The gx is a v8 which sucks down more gas . I would check out a highlander or infiniti jx.

I like the MDX and find that it sits three people comfortably in the back seat. The third row is pretty tiny and, if it is up, takes a lot of the room in the trunk. Gas mileage is about 16.5 mpg in reality, which sucks, but I think the Lexus is even worse (don't believe the manufacturer's reported MPG). I have a 2010 MDX with 52,000 miles and have not yet had a single thing go wrong with it.

Everyone seems to love the GX if you don't mind the way the hatch opens. I would go with that - the MDX will get smaller as the kids get bigger.

Both the parts and repairs are more expensive. Lexus and Toyota share the same platforms, but nobody has their platforms replaced. Many of the parts you'd actually have replaced are different.

We have a 10 year old GX and it still runs great. It is also DH's car. I didn't like drving it with kids because the third row was a bit of trouble and not too much space. I had a Volvo SUV that I preferred for these reason. I also hate the side opening door in the back of the GX. Big pain with groceries and kids' gear. I much prefer a hatch back that lifts up. But DH was fine with that. I say was because our kids are grown.

Do you mean the actual parts are more expensive for a Lexus (or Acura MDX) than for a Highlander? Or just that some dealers charge more for the repair work time because they think you can afford it? Or that it takes more hours to repair the Lexus due to being more complicated? Thanks for any info!

We have a 2010 Acura MDX and 3 kids (4, 2 and 1). All kids in car seats and most of the time we carry a double stroller, which renders the third row useless. It works for us for now. I wish the kids could spread out a bit more in the hope of curbing some of the fighting in the car so we will probably upgrade to something with more room in about 4 years.

We have the technology package, too. I think it works well for little kids but I wouldn't spend extra for it especially if they are older and could handle something like an IPad in the car.

I looked at both cars and I think the Acura is too small for 3 kids. I'd go with the lexus.

Both cars are good, but I am cheap when it comes to cars so I would go with the Acura if all the kids fit comfortably.

Both are good vehicles. GX 460 much bigger so it may be better for your 3 little ones as they get bigger.
