Yes let's check immigration status before you want to knock down a US Citizen.

Check for guardianship as well! We have got to do something about this crazy implosion of illegal kids in our school.

And check every. Single. Year. Sometime in the middle of the year.

+1. yes, people do bang at the door of DCPS, but waiting until HS graduation to check the residency is really stupid. as the poster above noted, are you going to deny them the diploma? make their parents pay tuition for K12 years in DCPS? plus, if this is the rule, kids would just "move" to DC during their last year. I think what would work is school doing their job of reporting kids who may not be resident in DC, and DCPS do random audit (like IRS), and every single time a cheater is found, DC government should go all the way to obtain payment of the back tuition (in addition to kicking the child out). the reality is that now whenever a cheater is found, the child may be kicked out, but parents do not end paying tuition for the years the child was in DCPS. so cheater have no reasons not to cheat. if they are caught they just go back to their local schools.

Agreed. Also - no one is banging down the doors to get into high schools in dcps.

Yes there are. Especially for some of the charter schools, Duke Ellington, Banneker, Walls, and Wilson.

The thing about DC and the grandma address, is that the extended family option is prevalent in the black community. It says proof of residence and not so much proof of guardinship.

Apparently PG county actually makes their seniors prove they live in bounds before graduating them. Obviously, DCPS has a major problem with kids getting smuggled Ito our school system, my question is why we don't force our seniors to prove that they are DC residents in the middle of the year? By making it the middle of the year, and unannounced, we don't give them time to fabricate some bullshit evidence. I would also like to see a short window between announcement and due date, maybe a week or so, again to minimize the risk of people using their grandma's/ friend's info.
