I also love the Ale House--they have delicious food and a casual vibe. Tomato Palace (owned by Clyde's and right next door) is good for Italian. LeeLynn's is another favorite with terrific food and a casual vibe. It's a little pricier than the Ale House. La Palapa in Ellicott City (or there is a smaller location in Maple Lawn) is good for Mexican.

If you are willing to drive down route 1 into Laurel, I highly recommend Pasta Plus. It is a terrific italian restaurant in an otherwise humdrum strip mall at the intersection of US Rte 1 and Rte 198

Thanks PP. Clyde's looks a bit more casual than Iron Bridge so that might be more my MIL's speed. She suggested Cheescake Factory but we've both been there many times.

Clyde's would be one option.

You could also try Iron Bridge Wine Company if it is a truly early dinner- I recommend trying to get a reservation- otherwise they get very very busy.

Facci in Maple Lawn is good, but my parents are older and complain the acoustics are hard to hear.

Luna Bella in Hickory Ridge Village Center would be good Italian with better acoustics for a MIL if that will be a challenge.

I'll be meeting up with my MIL in the Columbia, MD area for an early dinner. I don't know the area well. Can anyone suggest a restaurant in the area?
