+1. Pour it in a coffee can or glass jar with lid, toss it out with the trash. If it's a small amount in a pan I'll wipe it away with a paper towel. As long as it doesn't go down the sink drain, it's all good.

Do NOT pour hot grease into a glass jar--it could smash into pieces if the temperature of the glass is cold enough.

Pour it into a used tin can, stick it in the fridge or freezer to harden up. Dump it in the trash the morning of or day b/f. Make sure your trash can has a tight fitting lid, so you don't attract critters.

I quit doing bacon partly for this reason. Just kept thinking of all the stuff in my bloodstream. I do the ham steak instead. I have no can any more because I don't ever get in that situation where I need it.

(not saying the bacon isn't AWESOME, though)

We live in the suburbs. In the winter we let it harden and put it outside for the animals. Othe than that I take a glass jar fron the recycling bin and poor it in. Yup, one jar doesn't get recycled. I can live with that for how often we have that much grease.

My boyfriend washes it down the drain of his apartment sink, which drives me nuts.

I cut off the top of an (empty) small container that I was going to recycle and pour it in there, or else line a bowl with a few sheets of aluminum foil and pour it in there. Once it hardens I throw it out.

I save a portion of bacon grease to use it in salad dressing. It sounds gross.... but its yummy. Otherwise I let it cool and then put it in the trash.

I only save bacon grease. Anything else gets dumped in the trash. there's enough other stuff in there to absorb it.

About the grease container in the fridge from the "working class upbringing" thread...this is just because hot grease is hard to dispose of, right? My mom did that, and I'd do it if it weren't so messy, but I never thought of it as a class thing.

How do most people dispose of grease? Because my current method involves damn near a whole roll of paper towels, and I feel guilty every time.
