Sure. Hope to see that final report soon. Have also posted recently in Special Needs, as have others, so might want to look there as well for similar discussions.

What have you done to help them along? Tutoring? Move to a smaller class size?
What has helped?
Have you gotten your child tested?
Have you discovered a reason why your child struggles such as a learning disability?
For those with older kids, would love to hear how your child got through middle school and highschool and forward.

5th grade.
discovered the problem in second grade.
used Singapore 1st grade at end of second, then Singapore 2nd in third grade, and so on. Now we are caught up.
Friends did Kumon with same result.

NP here.
DS is in 3rd grade and dislikes math (he has a complex learning profile which might be gifted and learning disabled, plus ADHD).
He routinely makes mistakes in simple computations, and struggles to formulate word problems. This is apparent to me at home, however at school he gets all Ps since the standards are so low. The teacher has no idea.
As he is a predominantly visual learner, we enrolled him in abacus classes. This is a school staple of many Asian countries: it uses the left brain as well as the right brain to visualize beads on an abacus, whereas the conventional way of computing uses the right brain. You can Youtube it. It enables you to compute with small or very large numbers with equal ease and speed. This method is more appealing to him than math in the classroom.
Truthfully there is precious little he enjoys in the classroom and he would be better off in a special GT/LD class. We're trying to get there!

OP here. I'm looking for input beyond what the Math teacher says.
My child has gotten a lot of help from the school which I'm really thankful for but I'm afraid it's not the right kind of help- it's the kind of help that gets her through the SOLs.
