Good for you.

This is me too. I don't object to it simply because it's sports, but because he has the remote surgically implanted in his hand. It's selfish. There are times I would like to watch television too, and I can't really because he's flipping through soccer, football, basketball, whatever. It's horribly annoying. Oh, and to add to it, if I go upstairs to watch something that I want to watch, I'm being a baby. So there's no winning!

tell him no sports on Saturday & you'll blow him if the Redskins win on Sunday

You'd have to spot him a touchdown or two on that Skins game.

When I was in college I specifically dated guys who were not into sports. My father was and I remember many Saturdays and Sundays where we stayed home so dad could watch the game. I wanted to marry a man who was more interested in hanging out and doing hobbies together than he was in watching sports. I found all this and more in my husband and we couldn't be happier.

My DH might not watch as much as your, but I have 3 boys so there is no escaping it for me. Sports if not being physically played are being watched on TV. Being the lone female I just roll with it. I use the time for myself. My passion is cooking. They do their sports thing and I cook some sort of extravagant meal. They don't give a shit what I'm doing and I don't give a shit about what they are doing.

I do like it when the Ravens are having a bad season. When that is the case my family is apt to peel themseves away.

OP,
When I was younger (mid 40s now) my passion for my various sports teams was much more important to me than now. I don't know if that is normal, or unusual. As my kids became involved in youth sports, I found that I had much less time and interest in watching a team on TV. I still follow those teams by reading the internet, but I feel less compelled to watch them every time they happen to be on TV.

For me, I have always been the kind of sports fan that prefers to watch my own favorite team, rather than some random game. I am a die hard UNC Basketball fan. So, I would not be one to watch Kentucky play UConn, even if both were top ten schools. So that would be another limiting factor for me. Maybe you can convince DH to focus on HIS teams in that way. Also, I succeeded in totally turning my wife into a fan of my favorite MLB team.

Maybe, like me, your DH will age out of this similarly.

It's because you are letting him turn your house into a sports bar. Stick up for yourself. One college game on Sat is expected from a sports fan and one pro game on Sunday. Otherwise your interests and hobbies need to be attended to.

At least it isn't baseball season..

I have learned enough about the sports that my husband watches to know what is an important game and what is "filler sports". I don't bitch about, for instance, a Skins game. But our life isn't going to be interrupted by the little league World Series. Or repeats of playoff games from the 80s. I don't bitch when important games are on, but make sure to express my interests/wants/needs otherwise.
