What are your goals? Retirement income? Short-term savings? Long term savings? Do you want something more stable (and perhaps not as high return) or something potentially more volatile but from which you can see higher returns?

What is your investment situation otherwise? How will this compliment that?

Definitely a Vanguard fund. Stick to two at most.

Is this money that will stay invested long term? If so above options are good, otherwise a balanced fund might be better.

Vanguard Total Stock Market is good. If you are more conservative, Vanguard Wellington.

PP you are correct however I read into the tone of OPs post and it didn't sound like putting it into a retirement vehicle was a goal. either way, yes OP can put that money into a fund that is INSIDE of an IRA. thanks for helping me to clarify.

"roth IRA" and "mutual fund" are not mutually exclusive. OP can put the $$$ into a taxable mutual fund or the same mutual fund with roth or traditional IRA status.

I know you said mutual fund but how about a Roth IRA if you qualify.

how old are you? perhaps life insurance if you don't have that yet?

I would look to make that 10K work for me in retirement..
