I found that the basics - driver's license, SS, banks accts etc were pretty easy. Changing my name for frequent flyer miles was the biggest effing hassle.

+1. And honestly, I'm done trying. Still have a few cards in day maiden name. I wish I had never changed my name. My married name doesn't feel like my name. I had my name for 30 years. Why did I change it to one I feel no ownership of?

It wasn't bad for me. Although after I remarried, I never gave up my maiden name again. So I have a different last name than my kids, but for school purposes, I just use the same last name as them

ugh! I've been married 15 years and I still haven't done it. I lost the darn paper on our wedding day.
Now I guess I'll look at PPs missnowmrs.com website...

it's easy if you don't have a gazillion things/cards/etc out there with your maiden name on it.

Was incredibly easy. I keep all my cards in one place, so I knew exactly what needed to be changed. Any stuff that I forgot to change was usually chunk related.

First stop was SS office and I received my new card in 2 weeks. Next I renewed my passport and driver's license, sent a letter to my credit cards/other cards and it was pretty easy.

It wasn't that bad - start with the Social Security Office, then DMV, and go from there. For the next month, you'll have to say, "Oh, it could be under Maidenname." But no one ever gave me trouble (so much for security) when I wanted to switch last names halfway through a transaction.

The one place I forgot was the Kennedy Center's online profile. I ordered tickets for will call, and they were under my maiden name. I thought it was by last name on credit card, but nope!

I thought it was a huge pain in the rear and it took me a long time. There are things you forget about and then you find yourself in a bind because your library card is under someone else's name

I put it off for a while but then on a day off from work I just spent the day and got all of it done. SS office, drivers license, bank, credit cards, investment funds, insurance. Once I committed it really wasn't that much of a pain.

It really wasn't that bad at all. I'd really recommend going to the ss office on a Wednesday at an off hour. The cutbacks have made the office wait ridiculous. But they are great once ur number is called.

I am considering changing my name after marriage. How much of a pain is it? Any tips to ease the process? We live in Montgomery County.
