Second the easy Bake Oven. I think it's the classic 8 year old present.

My girl is also very interested in Monster High. Also Equestria Girls from My Little Pony.

She is desperate for a second American Girl, but I am holding firm. She might get the American Girl pony. (or the Target knockoff).

She also loves bright shiny things, so might get a rainbow-esque throw for her bed.

She needs a larger bicycle, but we'll wait until Spring since we live in the city and bike riding isn't as easy as just going outside and riding, it's more of a production we won't bother with until spring.

stuff for her American Girl Doll
ipod or kindle

I took her to the toy store and she brought a little notebook and wrote down what she wanted while we were there.

My almost 9 year old wants Monster High dolls. She has also asked for a faux fur blanket for her room. And new shearling boots.

She would love another American Girl doll. She would be over the moon if she received an iPhone, iPad or Kindle, but they are not super likely gifts (she might get a hand-me down iPad or Kindle if I upgrade).

She will probably get more Legos (bricks, windows, doors, and roofing materials), as she has gotten a lot more interested in them, and runs out of basic bricks to build her creations.

The Rainbow Loom has been a big success with her.

For her 8th birthday we got her a nice bike and that has been a great present. She asks to go for a bike ride almost every weekend.

Why don't you do an experience with her? A show, fancy tea, a day trip or overnight, something like that?

Why not take a cue from them and keep it simple for presents. If they don't want stuff, and they probably don't need stuff, don't buy just because it is the holidays.

OP here. Thanks for the helpful suggestions! We have the bands and the crafts, so far, but that's about it. She doesn't play with dolls. Would she still want an American Girl Doll? I kind of want to get her one, but I don't want her to be disappointed. Its kind of an investment. I will look at them. Are there any "have to haves" with the doll?

One of her siblings is getting one big thing, and she knows it. I am really sensitive to any of DCs feeling slighted against the other.

I'm the PP that gave DD's wish list. She's never shown interest in dolls before but she suddenly wants an AG doll because all her friends have one. I've talked to her about the fact that there's not much to do with them, but she still wants one. I forgot - she'd also like an iPad! What about a Kindle? I'm not sure what we'll end up getting her.

My 8 year old DD just wrote her wish list! It includes science kits, a Furby, Crayola marker maker, Glitzy Globes, Butterfly Garden, and American Girl Doll (she doesn't have one yet).

Craft stuff.

There's a lesson here that this poor child needs to learn. Take the opportunity while you can.

She tells you what she doesn't want, but not what she wants? Makes no sense.
